Confidentiality is a cornerstone of my counselling and psychotherapy services. Conversations and disclosures within the counselling space are treated as strictly private and are not shared with others, except in circumstances where safeguarding necessitates a breach of confidentiality. In instances where safeguarding concerns arise, such as a client expressing suicidal thoughts, I discuss these matters openly with the client and take all necessary steps to ensure they receive appropriate support, in accordance with my duty of care as a therapist.

I operate in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) regarding the handling of personal data. I am registered with the Information Commissioners Office and ensure that all data is securely stored in line with regulatory requirements. Only the minimum necessary data is retained, and it is kept only for as long as required, and no data is shared with third-party organisations unless explicit consent has been provided. This approach ensures that your personal information is handled responsibly and remains confidential, except where you have agreed for it to be shared. 

Safeguarding is a vital aspect of counselling and psychotherapy, ensuring the safety of clients and those around them. As professionals, we have a responsibility to care for those we work with, and the BACP ethical code provides guidance on balancing confidentiality with our duty of care. Safeguarding is especially significant when working with vulnerable individuals, such as children. If there is a risk of harm to the client or others, or if a client is being harmed, it is my duty to take appropriate action to protect them from harm, or to prevent harm to themselves or others.

 As a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), my work prioritises the safety and best interests of clients. I strictly adhere to the BACP's Ethical Framework and Code of Good Practice, and my professional conduct is subject to the procedures outlined by the association. Furthermore, I maintain comprehensive insurance to support my work in private practice and online settings.
